Short-term exchange programs are an important platform for people-to-people interactions across the Taiwan Strait. From Tongji University, 279 faculty members and students, as well as 22 delegations of administrators, have taken part in exchanges with FCU, National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Cheng Kung University, National Sun Yat-sen University, National Taiwan University of Science & Technology, Tamkang University and Chung Hua University. FCU designated July 25 as Tongji University Day, marking the start of a new model for educational and academic exchanges in higher education across the Taiwan Strait.
Tongji University is a top ranked university in China and is under the direct authority of the education ministry. It is also a member of Project 985. Under this project, universities receive funding to promote the development and reputation of the Chinese higher education system. It was also one of the first Chinese universities to be recognized by Taiwan’s Minstry of Education. Tongji University is a comprehensive university offering academic programs in the sciences, engineering, medicine, humanities, law, philosophy, economics, management and education.
Tongji University Day included special lectures on economic development and cooperation in higher education across the Taiwan Strait. In addition, students from FCU and Tongji University carried out academic and cultural exchange activities.
From the 2011-2012 academic year, FCU and Tongji University have been cooperating on short-term exchange programs in which hundreds of students have already participated. In addition, on March 5, 2012, Tongji University organized Feng Chia University Day. On that day, faculty members and administrators from FCU implemented a number of activities to increase awareness of this university among Tongji University students.
