The Center for Urban and Rural Development (CURD) at Feng Chia University was founded in 2003. The CURD integrates faculty from the field of Land Management, Architecture, and Urban Planning into the institution and works as a team to implement research projects subsidized by the public and private sectors. The purpose of establishing the CURD is to intensify the professional practice and research development of national land planning, urban and rural design, and project management. The content of the professional practice and research development includes globalization, regional governance, national planning, urban planning, rural planning, urban design, townscape design, community empowerment, cultural and creative industries, creative cities, urban marketing, ecological and low-carbon cities. The CURD also sets the goals of bridging the gap between academic and professional fields, establishing collaborative platform among academic, private, and public sectors, targeting future development of national land construction and spatial environment, and becoming leading research institution in the central district of Taiwan.
