Students and professor from the Department of Fiber and Composite Materials win National Innovation Award
Date of Issue: December 23, 2016
Professor Wen-Cheng Chen and five students from FCU’s Department of Fiber and Composite Materials recently took part in the 13th National Innovation Awards. One of 142 creative research projects at the competition, Professor Chen’s “Dicalcium Phosphate Rich Calcium Phosphate Bone Cement” won the National Innovation Award for Innovative Medical Equipment.
Professor Chen's R&D team has been working together in the College of Engineering for many years and has continuously developed a number of practical medical devices. Among them, the award-winning “bone cement” works by a process of bio-resorption, in which a bone actually absorbs the bone cement and thus improves the speed of bone reconstruction.
