The Big Data Forum as well as Workshop was jointly held by Economic Development Bureau of Taichung City Government, Micron Memory Taiwan, and College of Information and Electrical Engineering of Feng Chia University on September 22. More than 300 people, on and off-campus, participated in this event. This forum was expected, through the collaboration among academia, industries and the government, to cultivate more talents, to combine theory and practice, and to lead the innovation, transformation and improvement of industries via big data and artificial intelligence.
In addition to the units which held the event, some guests from other related organizations were also invited to voice their viewpoints from alternative perspectives. These organizations included Bureau of Management of Central Taiwan Science Park, Industrial Technology Research Institute, National Center for High-performance Computing, and National Chiao Tung University.
President Hsu of Micron Memory pointed out that the smart-manufacturing techniques based on big data could contribute to 10 percent shortening in the production time, 20 percent of cost reduction, and 30 percent of increase in the production volume. He also stated that big data are aimed to deal with more various and larger quantities of data on a timely basis, by which the customer service can be improved, the management can be upgraded, the risk can be reduced, and thus the niche can be found to build the new business. It was emphasized that, in terms of techniques, artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing need to be used in a collaborative manner and for further innovation.
In the speech made by Dr. Vincent S. Tseng, Distinguished Chair Professor of Department of Computer Science of National Chiao Tung University, it was argued that humans should not fear the rise of artificial intelligence; only by the cooperation of humans and artificial intelligence can the maximum effect be reached.
