Feng Chia University held the “Industry Trend Forum: Industrial AI” on May 28. and was glad to have Dr. Jay Lee from University of Cincinnati to deliver a speech on the event.
In Chairman Kao’s welcome speech, he stated that Dr. Jay Lee pointed out the importance of AI several years ago, and the growing trend around the world on AI in recent years has been apparent. It is FCU’s honor to hold Dr. Jay Lee’s one and only book launch speech in Taiwan.
Dr. Jay Lee has plenty of outstanding experiences. He is founding director of NSF I/UCRC on Intelligent Maintenance Systems (IMS) and was the counselor to President Obama. He was also selected to be one of the 30 Visionaries in Smart Manufacturing in U.S. by SME in Jan. 2016. Business Weekly revered Dr. Jay Lee as the expertise in the “AI Manufacturing” in 2017. Later, in 2018, Dr. Jay Lee was elected as Vice Chairman Board Directors of Foxconn Industrial Internet, pioneering Foxconn to the future of AI manufacturing.
While launching his new book, Dr. Jay Lee also focused on the introduction of “Industrial Artificial Intelligence (IAI).” He mentioned that differing from the artificial intelligence in cognitive science, IAI belongs to systems engineering, which solves engineering issues repeatedly, efficiently and reliably. Therefore, the biggest challenge for IAI is the transformation from an individual’s algorithm and cogitation to systems engineering, and to transfer the knowledge and wisdom with systematic methods, so that by using the same tool, different people can generate same or similar output.
Dr. Lee emphasized that industrial industry is an industry that solves problems. Before pulling in artificial intelligence, we should think about what problem we are solving with this. There are no experts but only winners in AI. Dr. Jay Lee also remarked that “Taichung is an important industrial city in Taiwan. And we hope that smart machinery can be achieved here in Taichung, and further influence the world.”
